It needs to be said on the outset that I don't like the Tory co-chairman Baroness Warsi. She only got her peerage and position because of some pathetic eagerness of the Tory party not to be seen as being nasty. For a woman who is unelectable, I mean it she stood for election twice and lost, to be given riches and power for life is wrong.
However my greatest irritation is the spoke fact that she's not very good at her job. Whenever the Tory party is in trouble she hides. She blatantly lies about UKIP and it's ties with the BNP when she knows that whatever the problems with UKIP they remain the only political party to ban BNP members even though the BNP is is a legal party.
And now she has been hit by two allegations about her 'complex' expenses.
Now my position is clear: any wrongdoing should be punished. If she broke the law she, like every other iffy person be stripped of title, position, and face jail.
Saying that one allegation seems weak. It seems that the income from a rental property was not fully declared. It sounds bad but the fact that it was fully declared in other public records, including the records dealing with ministers seems to reflect and oversight rather than some great plot to hide iffiness.
The other allegation is, to me, more serious. It appears that she claimed £165:50 per night for staying at a friends home whilst she attended the Lords. This is more iffy because to me it seems wrong, and indeed sleazy, to rent out your London home for a considerable amount and then claim expenses for accommodation because you don't live in London.
It seems to be profiteering at best to me.
The fact that the friend, or friend of a friend, doesn't seemed to have charged her to stay moves the allegation into the realms of fraud.
As I've been writing here for months I want all the iffy, sleazy, greedy, political scum prosecuted, stripped of title and honours, and imprisoned. Who they are, their party, position, gender, race, or friends shouldn't protect them.
It is that simple.
Alas I fear like Balls/Cooper who she is will result in her being let off.
And that's why people are angry.

She ought to resign from the Cabinet. I'm not convinced that she should remain in the House of Lords.
ReplyDeleteThis is a seedy administration. It does not have the vittue of being competent. I wonder how long it will be to a General Election.
I agree Bill. The iffy need to be prosecuted to the fullest. They deserve punishement for any crime, just like the rest of us. I find it obscene that peers can get prison, including jail for killing people as well as fiddling and ratain the titles, power, and expenses : for life!
ReplyDeleteIt cannot be right or just and undermines our whole poltical system.
